Hello dear readers! It's been a while. After hosting #FitBlog last Tuesday night (and loving every minute of your awesome musical selections, I might add!), I had a couple days to get my junk together, throw it in my brother's car, and drive down to Washington. The last few days have been busy unpacking and getting my bearings in my new city, welcoming my roommate, and hooking up with a few old pals who serendipitously also moved to DC recently.
The short form answer: blogging time has been scarce!
But I'm here to remedy that with my weekly dose of Mark Down Monday. If you're new here (hi! welcome! leave a comment so we can get to know each other better!), every Monday I check out how I did the previous week and set goals for the upcoming week. It's a fun way to keep myself accountable and healthy, and I highly recommend it!
Last Week
You expect me to remember last week? It seems like a month ago already!

Last Week
You expect me to remember last week? It seems like a month ago already!
- I took two ~3 mile runs and finished in about 30 minutes each. I felt awesome and strong and well-prepared for my 5k! Now I just want to shave some time off each mile.
- I did some free weight work at home, since I am between gyms right now.
- I did a yoga series that was free on Exercise TV OnDemand. I definitely am starting to feel more of a draw to yoga than before, not only to improve my flexibility but for emotional health as well.
- I did a silly ab series on Exercise TV as well. It was only 8 minutes long, but boy, did my abs burn after that!
- I moved a bunch of boxes and furniture :)
- ...and since I moved in, I've taken two runs, both about 2 miles in length. I'm just starting to get to know my neighborhood, so I've been getting lost a little. Yesterday I mapped out what looked like an awesome route on paper, but it turned out to have HUGE hills (not necessarily a bad thing, but I wasn't prepared!) AND a lot of the sidewalks disappeared in some places. Oh well, it was a good workout nonetheless.
I've been eating pretty well, too. I haven't done a full grocery run yet, because my roommate just arrived yesterday, but I got myself Green Monster ingredients, eggs and Whole Grain English Muffins, and the fixings for Pita Pizzas, recipe courtesy of Justin: "Warm pita in oven with olive oil, parmesan and fresh garlic. Then add tomato sauce, other cheese, toppings, and spices. Bake!" Here's the finished product:
Delicious and decently nutritious, for my first week in my apartment. I also made it to the Palisades Farmer's Market yesterday, and got some awesome fruits and veggies to use in cooking slightly more complex than Pita Pizzas.
My first full week in DC!
I'm not gonna go berserk with goals this week, because my chief concern is getting settled in so I can concentrate on classes when they begin next week. Here's what I hope to accomplish:
- Get my student ID and hit up the Georgetown gym for the first time!
- Get in at least three runs this week, at least one at true 5k distance.
- Continue eating healthily!
- Do something fun and outdoorsy with Mike when he comes to visit for our anniversary this weekend!
- Finish my blog post about POST-WORKOUT HAIR to share with you all! I'm so excited about this one. It will include a lot of silly pictures of me. Get excited.
I'll leave you with a teaser picture of my apartment- I'm not going to go all out and show it to you until it's fully decorated, but this is my favorite little detail of it so far: it came with a magazine rack next to the toilet, which I of course stocked with magazines germane to my interests:
Have a great week, and wish me luck as I get settled in here in DC! Do you have any suggestions for must-dos before I get ensconced in classes?
